NHS-R Conference Workshop: Working with databases in R – 23rd November 2022

Working with databases in R

  • Wednesday 23rd November 2022, 10.00 am – 1.30 pm

This workshop will take place online.

About the course:

The first step in any data handling process is loading data into your working tool regardless of the form and media of storage.

Relational databases such as RMySQL and web-based databases such as REDCap have gained popularity as efficient and cost-effective storage of small – medium data.

In this workshop, I am going to walk you through key steps in extracting and using data store in these platforms using R statistical software with the aid of user-developed Application Programming Interfaces (API’s).

Learning objectives:

  • Efficiently connect R to Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS)
  • Query data stored in any RDBMS from within R/Rstudio using dplyr and SQL syntax
  • Connect and querying data from Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) database
  • How to secure your API while working on collaborative projects.
